I’M BACK FOR SEASON (2) TWO!
September 1, 2010
SEASON 2 TWO BEGINS THE FIRST OFFICIAL DAY OF FALL
SEPTEMBER 21, 2010
Talk-It Tuesday’s on IAM!SLAND101 Show (ReCap)
January 20, 2010
January 19th, 2009 Live Broadcast
On January 12, 2010 7.0 magnitude quake seven days ago is being considered the region’s worst natural disaster in the last 200 years. The United Nations estimates that 3 million people are need of food, water, shelter and medical assistance.
Relief efforts are now focusing on the estimated quarter of a million injured and 1.5 million homeless, many of them orphans who lost their parents in the disaster.
Doing Now-Today
Per CNN.com 7:13 a.m. Tues. 19th 2010 — Nearly 500,000 people have encamped in a tent city in the Champs de Mars square in downtown Port-au-Prince, the largest of numerous tent cities scattered throughout the ruined city.
135,000 people in camps will receive hygiene kits w/ toothbrush/paste, soap, shampoo, detergent, towel, sanitary pads, etc from CARE.org
Death
Officials have expressed fears the final death toll may top 200,000 and a government minister said Sunday that 70,000 bodies had already been buried.
Airport
The flow of supplies into Haiti has been hampered by congested roads and the crowded airport, and thousands of survivors have been left to scrounge for food and emergency aid.
Port-au-Prince airport is increasing but is still a very small airport.
Survival- Water
There are many water sources in PaP but the challenge is transport.
Money and Supplies
In a huge global effort, more than 1.2 billion dollars has been pledged in aid funding for Haiti, United Nations data showed Tuesday.
Major national donors included Canada, which has pledged 53.6 million dollars, the United States, which has already paid up 114.4 million dollars, and the European Commission with 486 million dollars promised.
Outside of Haiti, people have contributed more than $220 million to major U.S. relief groups, according to The Chronicle of Philanthropy, a newspaper covering nonprofit organizations.
Nearly $9 million of that money was raised on CNN’s “Larry King Live” on Monday night in a star-studded live fundraising event. (Per CNN)
Medical Assistance
Doctors at the hospital used vodka to sterilize the limited medical instruments because there was no rubbing alcohol. Treated patients lay outside with tents made of tarps and blankets providing some shelter.
Military Involvement
Our U.S. Military in on a humanitarian mission over 2,200 Marines and sailors to take part in the relief operation. Expecting 10,000 totaled.
3,500 UN Troops that the UN Security Council voted on Tuesday to send to maintain order & protect aid that will swell UN forces to 14,500.
I’m wondering…
Is more troops needed — more relief supplies were?
The more people you bring in, the more recourse they will use up while trying to help.

!SLAND’s Current Project: Charity Water
January 8, 2010
Island Is’nt Going 2 Stand 4 It…Literally!
People are sick. Starving. Poor. Destitute. Every day I read or hear about it in the news. There are so many people that need help. There are so many needs, so many good causes.
I’ve had it pretty good in life. I don’t want to STAND by and just do nothing, so I picked one cause I think everyone can agree on. I’m working to give people something they absolutely cannot do without – the most basic of health needs.
I’m working to give people clean drinking water.
January 09th, 2009 Live Broadcast
More than a billion people don’t have access to safe drinking water. I don’t mean that their pipes don’t work; I mean that they have to walk hours each day to collect dirty water from stagnant ponds and muddy rivers. And the crazy thing is that for so many people, like for us here, clean water runs in lakes under their homes and village. But they don’t have the drilling equipment or the money to reach it.
Just $5,000 builds a well to serve a community of 250 people. My goal is to raise $5000 towards a well in the next three months. So just even $1 counts.
“Until I meet my goal, I will continue to remain seated all 8hrs per live 10PM-6AM EST broadcast of iamisland101 to show others that by them not helping that’s what we’re actually doing, just sitting on this issue.” -!SLAND
There’s a lot of need in the world. I’m starting here. Will you join me? Even $1 helps.
